Houston might not get maple-blazing autumns the way northern cities do, but fall brings its own magic to Memorial Park! The mornings are slightly cooler, grasses take on a golden hue, and there are endless opportunities to enjoy time outdoors. Here’s how to make the most of this season at the Park.Â
Between community programming and annual traditions, there is something for everyone this time of year!Â
Community Programming: Memorial Park Conservancy is pleased to offer a calendar of free or low-cost events for all ages and interests. Join us for events like Star Parties, bird watching, movies on the lawn and more! Head to the Event Calendar to see what we have coming up next. Â

Participants complete a 5K fun run/walk with a team of friends and co-workers, followed by an exciting outdoor happy hour with refreshments, live entertainment and much more!Â
Bayou City Art Festival: This outdoor festival attracts more than 20,000 attendees each Octoberand offers visitors the opportunity to meet with exhibiting artists, buy one-of-a-kind art, enjoy food, music, and entertainment.Â
The entire Picnic Loop is closed to the public for the duration of the event and several lots and Park areas are closed off for set up and break down in the days before and after. Head to our blog post about the Bayou City Art Festival to view details and Park Impact for the event.
Fall is a great time of year to observe Park ecology. Trees, wildflowers, and grasses shift in subtle but beautiful ways, with berries, blooms, and seedheads on display. Migratory birds, monarch butterflies, and other species pass through or prepare for winter. Take note of the below nature and wildlife to try and spot during your visit!

This is the time of year when many local runners start preparing for the Chevron Houston Marathon, which takes place in January and runs through Kinder Land Bridge tunnels!
