About State of the Park

Memorial Park Conservancy’s State of the Park is an annual moment to celebrate the past year’s advancements and future projects at Houston’s signature urban wilderness and recreation park. On October 1, 2020, the Conservancy presented its second annual State of the Park as a virtual event with the theme: The Healing Power of Parks.

Shellye Arnold, President & CEO of Memorial Park Conservancy, provided an update on the Ten-Year Plan and shared future projects taking shape in Memorial Park. After the Conservancy screened a video featuring the Land Bridge and Prairie project, event host Linda Lorelle led a panel of parks and recreation experts who answered questions on the power of parks to bring communities together, offer refuge and respite, and provide healing and peace during troubling times.
