Springtime in Houston is a magical season, and Memorial Park comes alive with vibrant blooms, pleasant weather, and countless activities to enjoy. As one of the city’s largest urban green spaces, Memorial Park offers a perfect escape to immerse yourself in nature, unwind or take part in outdoor adventures! Here’s how to make the most of your spring visit to Memorial Park.

Seasonal Events and Activities

There are endless ways to get involved and enjoy springtime at Memorial Park. Take note of the below highly anticipated happenings at the Park—these events tend to draw high traffic and have an impact on Park users. Head to our Event Calendar to find the specific dates of our yearly events and programming!

Texas Children’s Houston Open: The Memorial Park Golf Course is known as one of the best municipal courses in the nation and is visited by more than 60,000 patrons each year. The Texas Children’s Houston Open takes place in the springtime on the Memorial Park Golf Course and attracts visitors from all over the country.

MEMORIAL PARK GALA

The Park Ball: Memorial Park Conservancy’s annual Gala, The Park Ball, takes place in April and is one of the most important fundraising events for Memorial Park Conservancy. The central lawn at Clay Family Eastern Glades is transformed into a garden oasis for a spectacular evening of dining and dancing with some of the Conservancy’s biggest fans and supporters. You don’t want to miss it!

Sunset Cinema Series: New in 2026! Settle in for movie magic at sunset. Sunset Cinema will take place at Clay Family Eastern Glades in Memorial Park, featuring free movie screenings on the lawn with Memorial Park as your backdrop. Bring a blanket, grab a spot on the grass, and enjoy a relaxed evening under the stars with friends, family, and neighbors. More details coming soon!

Nature and Wildlife

Spring migration brings a variety of birds and pollinators to Memorial Park. The Park’s diverse flora also begins to flourish, providing a stunning visual display. This is the perfect time of year to slow down and observe the ecosystems at play.

Wildflower Blooms: Look out for patches of colorful Texas wildflowers, including bluebonnets, Indian paintbrushes, and coreopsis!

Warblers and Orioles: These colorful songbirds are common sightings during spring! Head Cyvia & Melvyn Wolff Prairie to view wildlife from one of the observation decks.

Turtles and Butterflies: Spot these creatures at Hines Lake or near the Park’s other water features and flowering areas.

Picnics and Dining

Whether you’re planning a family outing, a romantic date or a relaxing solo retreat, Memorial Park provides the ideal picnic backdrop!

There are several picnic tables and green areas scattered about the Park on a first come, first served basis. If you’ve got a very large group, you may need to reserve a pad or pavilion to ensure a designated place for your party. Click Here to explore Park reservation options.

If you aren’t a frequent visitor, it helps to plan ahead and make sure you choose the perfect place to enjoy your spread! Check out our Picnic Guide for recommendations and tips so you can make the most of your time at the Park.

If you want to dine at the Park without bringing your own spread, head to Vibrant Cafe for healthy food and beverage options. You can place an order to go or utilize their indoor/outdoor seating accommodations.
