Park User FAQs: Houston Open Event, Nov. 2-8, 2020

When is the Houston Open?

The Houston Open and associated events will take place at the Memorial Park Golf Course November 2-8, 2020 and may be extended by an additional day in the event of inclement weather.  The event is managed by the Astros Golf Foundation in partnership with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department.  Additional details can be found on the Houston Open website and on the Houston Municipal Golf website

Will Memorial Park be open to the public during the Event?

Memorial Park will remain open to the public during the tournament; however, certain areas of the Park adjacent to the golf course may be closed or subject to detours to enhance the safety of the tournament. Specifically, Memorial Loop Road will be closed and all associated parking in the northeast quadrant of the Park will be closed during event hours. See below for details regarding Clay Family Eastern Glades and the Seymour Lieberman Trail.

Park lovers are encouraged to visit the many wonderful parks in Houston during event week. The Houston Parks and Recreation Department has 366 parks through the City. There are also other wonderful areas in Memorial Park including Picnic Loop and the wooded south side and northwest trail system, comprising over 20 miles of trails that will remain open during the Event.

I’m a Park user not attending the Houston Open. Where can I park?

Parking surrounding the golf course in the northeast quadrant of the Park will be available to Park users from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. each evening of the event.  After 11 p.m., Memorial Loop will be open only for vehicles to exit.  Outside of these hours, parking will be strictly limited to event attendees.  Any cars left overnight may be subject to towing by event management.

The remaining parking in Memorial Park, including all parking south of Memorial Drive, will be reserved for Park users only. Free parking is available in Picnic Loop and at the Cullen Running Trails Center. View the map below for information on accessing these areas. Note that Picnic Lane, which connects the Running Trails Center and Picnic Loop, will be closed to vehicular traffic but will be open to pedestrians and bicycles.

Will the Seymour Lieberman Trail be open during the Event?

To ensure the safety of the Event and to manage attendee flow, the Seymour Lieberman Trail will be closed from 4 a.m. – 7 p.m. during the Event week.  We are encouraging users of the Seymour Lieberman Trail to visit other parks during this time, or visit other areas in Memorial Park that they may not regularly use.  Within the Park, Picnic Loop will be open for use, as will the wooded south side and northwest trail system, comprising over 20 miles of trails. Running enthusiasts may also want to visit the trails at Hermann Park, Rice University and Buffalo Bayou Park, just to name a few of the great trails that can be found throughout the Houston area.  The Houston Parks Department also maintains over 160 miles in trails in the city.  Information on them can be found here

Will the Clay Family Eastern Glades be open during the Event?

The Clay Family Eastern Glades will be closed to the public from 4 a.m. -7 p.m. each day for maintenance.  It will be open each evening from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m.
