Hike and bike through more than 8 miles of natural surface trails in the Bayou Wilds located in the southwest section of Memorial Park.
As you explore, the noise of the city fades away, replaced with soothing sounds of nature. These trails are color-coded with maps placed near each trailhead to help you navigate the forest.
What To See
BAYOU WILDS TRAILS
There are 7 trails open to hikers and bikers in the Bayou Wilds Trail System. All of these trails are natural surface and subject to close following heavy rains. Please check the trail status to see if they are open.
The trails are mixed-use and shared by both hikers and bikers. Please use trail etiquette such as announcing your presence, being mindful of blind turns, and yielding appropriately to safely share trails.

All users are required to stay on the trail system in order to protect our fragile ecosystem. Electric or motorized vehicles such as motorized bikes are strictly prohibited in Memorial Park’s southside trail system.
MODERATE TRAILS
Aqua
The southernmost trail in the Bayou Wilds Trail System, this secluded path invites you to run, walk, or bike while enjoying picturesque views of Buffalo Bayou. Â

Blue
Stroll alongside a ravine that flows directly into Buffalo Bayou, linking you to the South Land Bridge Trail.

Coastal Prairie Trail
Train enthusiasts and birders alike will marvel at this unique trail, where the sights and sounds of nature blend with the rhythmic clatter of passing trains.

Stretching along the southern edge of Cyvia & Melvyn Wolff Prairie, this trail provides picturesque views of the vibrant prairie and acts as the primary route connecting numerous Bayou Wilds trails.

Outer Loop Trail
This versatile crushed granite trail is designed for runners, walkers, and cyclists; it winds around Memorial Loop Drive, traverses the Sports Complex and stretches alongside the Clay Family Eastern Glades.

NORTHWEST TRAILS
There are 3 trails within the Northwest portion of the Park. These are trails are all natural surface and open to hikers and bikers.
Gold
Among the Northwest Trails, this path is one of the most secluded and experiences the least amount of foot traffic.

This trail is the flattest of the Northwest Trail System and is the simplest to navigate. It’s ideal for beginners. Â

HOUSTON ARBORETUM TRAILS
The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center (HANC) has an additional five miles of trails and walkways wind through HANC’s 155-acre nature sanctuary. (This area is not under the management of Memorial Park Conservancy, visit HANC website for more.)

PARK UPDATES & ALERTS
Please be aware: The parking lots at the Running Complex and Picnic Loop will close each night at 9:00 p.m. and will reopen the following morning at 4:30 a.m.
The automatic gates allow free exit, meaning that any park user still in the lot after closing time can leave once the lot is closed.
The western portion of Outer Loop Trail will remain closed until 2027 for the construction of Memorial Groves.
