Memorial Park is excited to welcome back the Texas Children’s Houston Open this spring at the Memorial Park Golf Course. The event is expected to bring 15,000 visitors to the Park each day from March 26 to March 29. While the tournament brings world‑class golf to our city, it also brings important temporary impacts to public access in and around the Park. Here’s what visitors should know before planning a trip during tournament week.
2026 Park Impacts: March 23–29
During tournament week, Memorial Park will remain open to the public, but access will be significantly limited due to closures and operational needs for the PGA TOUR event.
Memorial Park Impacts:
⚠️March 23–25: Parking lots at the Memorial Park Golf Course, Vale-Asche Playground, Sports Complex, and Tennis Center will be closed. Lots at the Fitness Center, Clay Family Eastern Glades, Picnic Loop, and Running Complex will remain open these days.
⚠️March 26–29: All Memorial Park parking lots will be closed to the public. Street parking will also be restricted, and certain road closures will be in effect. Permit or credentialed access will be required at all Park entrances off Memorial Drive during these days.
⚠️Onsite parking, sports fields, and facility rentals will not be available during the tournament. The Cullen Running Trails Center and Vibrant Café will remain open during regular hours, but their parking lots will be inaccessible.
Getting to the Park
Visitors are encouraged to walk, bike, use METRO, or utilize rideshare services during this time. Rideshare drop‑off locations may be limited due to tournament restrictions.
We encourage Park lovers to visit the many wonderful parks in Houston during event week. The Houston Parks and Recreation Department has 366 parks through the City, and maintains over 160 miles in trails. More information on them can be found here.
Additional parks nearby include Buffalo Bayou Park and the nearby Bayou Greenway trails. Running enthusiasts may also want to visit the trails at Hermann Park or Rice University.
A Brief History of the Houston Open
The Houston Open is one of the longest-running events on the PGA TOUR, first held in 1946.
Its connection to Memorial Park is especially meaningful: the tournament was originally played here in 1947 and again from 1951–1963, marking an important era in the Park’s sporting history!
Over the decades, the event moved throughout Greater Houston—including River Oaks Country Club, Champions Golf Club, and the Golf Club of Houston—before returning to Memorial Park in 2020 after a major course renovation led in part by Houston Astros owner Jim Crane.
Today, the tournament continues to attract top PGA TOUR professionals and thousands of spectators while supporting charitable initiatives across the region.
