Nature and recreation are important components during a public health crisis, and Memorial Park remains open for visitors. However, as a public health precaution related to the constantly evolving situation regarding the coronavirus, Memorial Park Conservancy will postpone permitted events and reduce onsite maintenance services effective today, March 16, to protect the health of our staff and the community.
Our intent is to be part of a community-wide solution in flattening the curve of COVID-19 and do our part to ensure the healthcare system is not overwhelmed. The best evidence shows that aggressive efforts early in the trajectory make a substantial difference in the severity and duration of the spread.
If you plan to visit Memorial Park, we encourage you to:
- Practice social distancing
- Avoid using playgrounds
- Avoid coming into contact with surfaces such as benches or exercise equipment that others may have used
- Bring your own water bottles
- Refrain from using water fountains
Enclosed spaces such as restrooms are particularly susceptible to transmitting the virus. Port-a-cans are available throughout the Park, but permanent rest facilities operated by the Conservancy, such as those in Eastern Glades and the Cullen Running Trails Center will be closed to reduce potential exposure to staff members and visitors.Â
Park users are encouraged to make use of their home restroom prior to visiting the Park. Trash services and mowing will continue but frequency will be reduced. Recreational facilities such as the Golf Course, Tennis Center and Fitness Center are operated by Houston Parks and Recreation Department, and questions regarding their operations should be directed accordingly.
We have a responsibility to protect the health of our staff and Park users, to do our part to slow the spread of the virus, and to ensure the continuity of the Conservancy’s work.
