Give the Gift of Membership

A Memorial Park Conservancy Membership is a remarkable alternative to fighting holiday traffic, long lines and the fear of empty shelves. In addition to funding Conservancy programs that enhance and preserve the park, each MPC gift membership provides an opportunity to make special memories in Memorial Park.

Members receive our monthly e-newsletter, HAPPENINGS IN THE PARK, special Members Update of the Memorial Park Conservation Master Plan, invitations to special volunteer events and park programs, as well as a MPC Member static window decal.

Call us at 713-863-8403 or click here for more information.

P.S. You can also shop online to benefit MPC at www.memorialparkconservancy.org!

Invasive Plants Clearing at Hogg Bird Sanctuary

This volunteer earns his stripes by clearing this branch

Thank you to our volunteers from Houston Parks and Recreation Department, YES College Prep, Bellaire High School, Westbury High School and neighbors from Crestwood Garden Club who helped us on the morning of December 2, 2006 to improve the natural habitat for Memorial Park’s indigenous birds. It was a massive undertaking—clearing trash, trees and other invasive plants. Thanks again for cooperating on this important ongoing task!

Playgrounds Without Limits Dedication

December 16, 2006

11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Bring your children or the child within to this very special playground dedication of the new Playgrounds Without Limits in Memorial Park. We thank Carolyn Farb and Mayor Bill White along with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department and the Houston Parks Board for their fundraising expertise and determination in achieving this joyful holiday gift for children with disabilities. According to the Houston Parks Board website, “This playground goes above and beyond the ADA guidelines to make it accessible, safe and fun for all children”. Congratulations Houston!

The Big Dig!

Will Clayton Parkway

January 27, 2007

8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

YES College Prep students train for the Will Clayton planting during the Westcott tree planting.

Memorial Park Conservancy joins Houston Parks and Recreation Department, Trees for Houston, Keep Houston Beautiful, The Park People and others, in collecting volunteers to help plant 20,000 trees this coming Arbor Day along the esplanade of Will Clayton Parkway at Bush Intercontinental Airport. Please arrive at our assigned section of the esplanade at 8:00 a.m. with your work gloves, closed-toe shoes, dressed to plant. (Assignments to follow). Parking is available in the traffic lanes adjacent to the esplanades on Will Clayton Parkway.

Off-site parking will be available in Lot D, located on the northeast corner of Will Clayton Parkway and Lee Road. Volunteers will be shuttled to their planting sites.  Help us raise the MPC banner over an esplanade!

These YES College Prep students display great care for this sapling.

Contact Deb Taylor at deb@memorialparkconservancy.org for more information.

Prepare the Park for the Trail Riders

February 10 and 17, 2007

Help us prepare Memorial Park in welcome for thousands of trail riders headed into town for the 75th Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. We will start by marking off the boundaries of the campgrounds for these weary travelers for the duration of the Rodeo.

Watch for more information in the near future to participate in this momentous Houston tradition.

As we enter 2007, watch for new and exciting ways to make your mark in Memorial Park.

Our fearless SCA volunteers celebrate their hard work on the Seymour-Lieberman trail.

Thank you for all you have done to make this year a success for MPC!

Happy Holidays!
