The following recreational facilities are operated by the department:

Golf

The Memorial Park Golf Course, 1001 E. Memorial Loop, is considered to be among the best municipal courses in the country.  Originally a 9-hole sand course, it was expanded under the direction of famed golf architect John Bredemus into a 250-acre, 18-hole masterpiece. Today it hosts more than 65,000 of golfers annually.  Tee times may be booked over the phone by calling 713-559-2000 or visiting www.memorialparkgolf.com.

Tennis

The Memorial Park Tennis Center, 1500 Memorial Loop Dr., right off the Seymour Lieberman Exercise Trail, features 18 hard-surface courts, a practice wall, a pro shop with lockers, and shower facilities available for a nominal fee.  Lessons, tournaments, leagues and corporate outings are available.

Croquet

The croquet courts are adjacent to the tennis courts and serve as the home courts of The Houston Croquet Association.

For fees, reservations and hours of operation, contact the Memorial Park Tennis Center.

Cycling and Mountain Biking

The Memorial Park Picnic Loop gives riders a smooth surface for their daily ride.  This multi-use trail is open for use by road bikers, in-line skaters, traditional roller skate enthusiasts, and hikers during regular park hours.  Automobile traffic is allowed Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends and holidays only.  Picnic facilities and restroom facilities are available along the loop.

Mountain Bikers are especially fond of trails located in the southwest section of Memorial Park.  These trails are color coded with maps at the trailhead signs.  Park in the lot west of the baseball fields near the rugby/soccer field and follow the double track along the soccer field back to the single track.  The Mountain Bike Trails are affected by the weather and are closed if conditions warrant it to preserve the trails.  Trails are checked on a daily basis to determine if weather conditions warrant their closure.  Call the Mountain Bike Trail Line at (713) 221-0499 for trail openings and closures.

Indoor Fitness and Swimming                           The Memorial Park Fitness Center, 6402 Arnot, is open year-round and provides a variety of free-weight and resistance equipment, on-site trainers, and locker and shower facilities.  The pool is open during the summer swimming season.  Daily or monthly memberships are available for a small fee.  For more information, hours and fees call 713-802-1662.

Picnics
Picnic tables are located throughout the park as well as along Picnic Loop south of Memorial Drive. A picnic area can be reserved for personal use or private events for a fee through the Houston Parks and Recreation Department's Permits and Reservations Office.  This permit ensures the exclusive use of the specific space for a designated time frame.  For fees and more information regarding permits and reservations at Memorial Park call 832-395-7012.

Running and Walking

The Seymour Lieberman Exercise Trail is a 2.93-mile crushed granite trail complete with exercise stations (located along the trail) and a larger workout station located close to the tennis center.  The trail is lighted and has restrooms and water fountains along the way.  The trail is available for joggers and walkers use.

A .25-mile asphalt timing track, located across from the tennis center, allows runners to work on speed and develop their running skills.

Sports Fields

Memorial Park sports fields are located both on the north and south sides of the park.  Fields available for use include 5 softball fields, 1 baseball field and 1 soccer field.  These fields are available for league and tournament play only. 1 rugby/soccer field and 4 sand volleyball courts can be used for practice as well.

For more information on adult league play contact the Houston Parks and Recreation Department's Adult Sports Office at 832-395-7130 or email adult.sports@houstontx.gov.

Playgrounds                                                            The Vale-Asche Foundation Playground at Memorial Park, located on Memorial Loop Drive near Arnot Street, is an accessible playground where children of all abilities can play together.  The playground structure is 90% accessible for children with mobility issues.  It is the first playground of the Houston Parks and Recreation Department's Playgrounds Without Limits Campaign created to build playgrounds that surpass ADA requirements and provide play opportunities for children of all abilities. For more information on the Vale-Asche Foundation Playground and the Playgrounds Without Limits Campaign visit www.houstontx.gov/parks.
